EC grants €4.4M for tidal turbines subsystem project
European Commission (EC) has awarded €4.4 million to Nova Innovation-led project set to demonstrate and validate a new direct drive power-take off solution for tidal turbines. In addition to Nova Innovation, the tidal energy consortium participating in the project includes Siemens, SKF, the University of Edinburgh, RWTH Aachen University, Delft Technical University, and Wood Group Kenny’s SgurrEnergy.
Leask Marine gearing up for Tocardo job
Orkney-based marine renewables services provider Leask Marine will be engaged in the installation of Tocardo’s system at EMEC throughout this month. The device will be installed at EMEC’s grid-connected tidal test site at the Fall of Warness in Orkney. The operations are due to begin on March 4, with the completion date set for March 31, 2017.
Welsh assembly members call PM May to back Swansea tidal
Over two-thirds of Wales assembly members have signed a letter sent to UK’s Prime Minister Theresa May urging the PM to support the plans for Swansea Bay tidal lagoon. The proposed Tidal Lagoon Swansea Bay project, worth £1.3 billion is still awaiting the subsidy agreement with the UK government.
Nautricity all set for CoRMaT turbine deployment
Glasgow-based tidal energy developer, Nautricity, has engaged the services of First Marine Solutions for the installation of its CoRMAT tidal turbine and station keeping system. The turbine is expected to be deployed at EMEC’s Fall of Warness tidal test site by the end of this month, starting from March 4, 2017. The vessel which will be engaged in the installation operation is Olympic Challenger.
SEENEOH tidal test site fully connected
All three testing berths have been connected to the grid at the SEENEOH tidal test center on the the Garonne river in Bordeaux, France. The berths have been designed to test tidal devices with either mounted or floating fixation type, and SEENEOH is expected to welcome its first users in the summer 2017.
