The Taiwanese company CECI Engineering Consultants and the Dutch consultancy Wind Minds signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly tender for a 110MW offshore wind farm off Changhua County in Taiwan.

The MoU was signed during the Taiwanese-Dutch offshore wind workshop in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on 7 March.

The 110MW wind farm is being developed by Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower), and is the first phase of a two-phase project to develop 1,010MW of offshore wind capacity off Changhua.

The first phase of the project is valued at around USD 617 million and the 110MW wind farm is expected to be operational by June 2020.

The second phase of the project, scheduled to begin with development in 2020, will take place off the county’s Lukang Township and have an additional installed capacity of approximately 900MW, according to the website of Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The government of Taiwan is actively promoting wind energy, with a particular focus on offshore development, as part of its aim to achieve around 14GW of renewable generation capacity by 2030, including around 4GW of wind capacity.
