U.S.-based geophysical company FairfieldNodal will conduct back-to-back surveys in the UK and the Norwegian part of the North Sea.

The company said on Thursday that the two campaigns would begin in early April 2017.

Due to the specific conditions of the North Sea, FairfieldNodal will be employing its Z700 seismic data acquisition system. According to the company, the system is designed for ecologically sensitive environments and shallow waters crowded with infrastructure.

FairfieldNodal said that the initial 4D survey would cover approximately 325 square kilometers on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS), giving operators a high-quality dataset to assist in planning and future field development.

The second survey, consisting of approximately 59 square kilometers on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS), is a repeat of a previous acquisition.

Chuck Davison , President and CEO of FairfieldNodal, said: “Traditionally, the Z700 is the system of choice where 4D seismic is critical to managing complex reservoirs. It’s allowed companies to improve the economics over the life of their reservoirs.”
