ABPmer has developed tide and surge model, and related database, for the North West Europe.

ABPmer’s model provides water level and flow parameters generated by both astronomic (tidal) and meteorological forces across the North West European Continental Shelf and North Sea.

As part of the launch of the new product, part of ABPmer’s metocan information service SEASTATES, the tide and surge model validation report has also been published.

The report demonstrates the accuracy of the model in reproducing tidal and surge water levels and currents, as well as detailing the data used to inform the model setup and validation, according to ABPmer.

Jamie Hernon , Metocean specialist at ABPmer, said: “We are pleased to have been able to respond to client requests and use our SEASTATES model to develop a database of tide and surge data stretching back to 1979. The model has been validated against 72 locations around North West Europe and proves to be highly accurate.”

ABPmer said it is already using the new model to support clients’ offshore and coastal metocean projects.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Associated British Ports Holdings, ABPmer has been providing metocean information to the offshore and coastal sector for decades. In recent times this has included weather downtime statistics to inform operational planning, tender pricing and program management.
