North Yorkshire-based Specialist Marine Consultants (SMC) has won a contract to provide client representatives to monitor turbine installation and inter-array cable installation works on DONG Energy’s 573MW Race Bank offshore wind farm off North Norfolk.

Starting in spring 2017, the client representatives, all from the local area, will be based on the installation vessel, monitoring the construction and installation of the wind turbine generators.

SMC will also be monitoring the installation of the inter-array cables on behalf of DONG Energy.

SMC’s Operations Director Dean Coates said: “This is great news for SMC; we are very pleased to be awarded this local contract by DONG Energy and are looking forward to continuing work on the Race Bank project. It’s great to see DONG Energy’s commitment to using local companies and personnel from the local area.”

Race Bank will comprise 91 Siemens 6MW turbines installed some 17 miles off Blakeney Point.

The wind farm is being built out of DONG Energy’s construction base in the Grimsby Fish Docks and is expected to be fully commissioned in 2018.
