Norwegian oilfield services player Aker Solutions has reduced its workforce by some 4,800 since 2014.
According to the company’s latest corporate responsibility report, total staff count has been cut by 23 percent from 2014 to 2016. Aker Solutions’ workforce dropped to 16,177 in 2016 from 20,974 employees in 2014.
Norway has seen the biggest cuts in workforce from 8,191 to 5,839. The United Kingdom, the United States and Malaysia have also experienced significant adjustments.
“In a market that remains challenging, many of our valued colleagues had to leave the company. We have worked with unions and staff to make the process as fair and transparent as possible. We don’t take these decisions lightly, but we have to be prepared for these challenging times to continue and do what is necessary to safeguard our company and future jobs,” said Luis Araujo , CEO of Aker Solutions.
The company reported increase in workforce in Africa, due to mainly Kaombo and Moho projects. Brazilian workforce also increased following the acquisition of C.S.E. Mecânica e Instrumentação .
