Ocean Power Technologies (OPT) will exhibit its PB3 commercial PowerBuoy at Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, Texas.

OPT has developed a PB3 PowerBuoy that harvests the energy of the waves, and can act as both power and communication platform for remote offshore applications such as advanced multi-functional sensors, modular chemical injection systems for subsea operations, and docking stations for subsea drones.

George Kirby , President and CEO of OPT, said: “OTC is a great venue for us to showcase our PowerBuoy and give customers and end-users the opportunity to see and touch a full scale PB3. We will have a team of technical and commercial experts who are eager to discuss in detail the great capabilities of this innovative and uniquely enabling product.”

The US-based wave energy developer is mainly interested in oil and gas, defense and security, ocean observing, and communications markets.

To remind, in February 2017 OPT formed a strategic alliance with HAI Technologies to explore mutual opportunities in the oil and gas sector, with a focus on offshore oil and gas subsea chemical injection systems where persistent power and real-time data communications are critical.

The Offshore Technology Conference will be held from May 1 through May 5, 2017.
