The world’s first purpose-built LNG bunkering vessel, Engie Zeebrugge, completed the first loading operation at Zeebrugge liquefied natural gas terminal’s second jetty.
The operation came only a few days after the vessel arrived in its home port of Zeebrugge last week.
Built by Hanjin Heavy at the Yeongdo shipyard in Busan, Korea, for the Gas4Sea partnership, the 5000-cbm LNG bunkering vessel will operate from the port of Zeebrugge supplying marine fuel to ships operating in Northern Europe. Fluxys Group acquired a 25 percent stake in the vessel in October 2015.
The partnership, comprising France’s Engie and its Japanese partners Mitsubishi Corporation and NYK Line, said the vessel will load the liquefied natural gas at the Zeebrugge LNG terminal’s second jetty, commissioned in late December last year.
Engie Zeebrugge’s first customers will be the two LNG-fueled pure car and truck carriers operated by United European Car Carriers.
