Sandvik Materials Technology has secured a contract to be the sole provider of stainless steel umbilical tubes for the Leviathan gas field in the Mediterranean Sea, offshore Israel.

The order was booked in the first quarter and the value is about 400 million SEK ($40 million) with deliveries scheduled for 2017.

“I am pleased that our strong position and customer offering have resulted in us being selected as the supplier for this large and challenging project,” says Petra Einarsson , president of the Sandvik Materials Technology business area.

The Noble Energy-operated Leviathan project contemplates a subsea system that connects production wells to a fixed platform located offshore with tie-in onshore in the northern part of Israel.

The Leviathan’s initial development will include four subsea wells, each capable of flowing more than 300 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) of natural gas.

The first gas from the field is targeted for the end of 2019.
