The Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO) has launched a £14 million call for small-scale community renewable energy proposals.

Through the call, launched on April 12, 2017, WEFO is looking for proposals of up to 10MW that will demonstrate the ability of a community to produce its own energy source and manage it through a smart grid application.

The types of proposals likely to be supported are schemes that will deliver the infrastructure and be operational before the program closes in 2020.

Also, WEFO said it would support the schemes that demonstrate sustainability beyond the ERDF intervention and the ability to future-proof energy supply reducing the complete reliance upon existing energy suppliers.

Among others, the schemes that incorporate a storage solution to time-shift the energy created to when it is needed, as well as those that are already beyond the initial scoping phase with a clear idea of the solutions and infrastructure to be put in place, will also be supported through this call.

The deadline for the submission of proposals has been set for June 30, 2017.
