A CHC helicopter that crash-landed last week on the Petrobras-operated Sevan Brasil drilling rig off Brazil has been removed from the helipad.
Following a “rough landing” by the helicopter owned by CHC’s Brazilian unit, BHS, a video emerged this week showing its landing on the rig’s helideck. The rig is located in the Santos Basin, in the Búzios field offshore Brazil.
In an e-mailed statement to Offshore Energy Today on Tuesday, a CHC spokesperson confirmed that the Sikorsky S92 helicopter “experienced an emergency landing.”
A spokesperson for Seadrill, a parent company of the rig owner, Sevan Drilling, told us that the extent of the damage to both the helicopter and the rig was “minor.”
According to a Tuesday statement by the Brazilian state-owned oil giant, the damaged helicopter was removed from the helipad on Monday, April 17.
Petrobras also added that the helicopter was carrying 18 passengers and three crew members who, following the incident, disembarked uninjured.
The unit has already been authorized by the competent authorities to resume the operation, Petrobras added. An internal committee was set up by Petrobras to analyze the incident.
Back in 2014, an offshore worker died in an accident on the Sevan Brasil drilling rig, while conducting maintenance work.
