Norway’s Statoil has received consent from the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) to drill an exploration well in the Barents Sea with the Songa Enabler drilling rig.

The well is located in block 7219 in production license 532 in the Barents Sea where Statoil is the operator.

The offshore safety body has now given its consent to Statoil to drill the exploration well designated as 7219/9-2, in a prospect named Kayak.

The drilling site is 198 kilometers north-west of Sørøya in Finnmark and around 140 kilometers north-west of Goliat. Water depth at the site is 336 meters. Drilling is scheduled to begin in April 2017 and to last 27 days.

The well will be drilled using the Songa Enabler drilling rig, which is owned and operated by Songa Offshore.

Songa Enabler is a semi-submersible rig of the Cat D type, built at the Daewoo yard in South Korea in 2016. The rig is classified by DNV GL and registered in Norway.
