The DWDR (Dover Western Docks Revival) principal contractor, a joint venture between VolkerStevin and Boskalis Westminster (VSBW), is continuing to make good progress with the harbor dredging project.

The contractor has brought a fleet of specialist vessels for this project including trailing suction hopper dredgers, the ‘MP40’ backhoe dredger, split hoppers etc.

At the moment, two trailer dredgers, the 1,500m³ ‘Sospan Dau’ and one of the 4,500m3 Causeway class vessels are dredging the soft sediment, moving it to the designated offshore licensed disposal area.

Over the next few weeks, the port expects to welcome up to twenty different VSBW vessels that will be engaged in the dredging phase of the development project.

In total, approximately one million cubic meters of silt, gravel and chalk will be removed from the harbor before the piling work can begin.
