Glasgow-based tidal energy developer Nautricity has installed its 500kW CoRMaT tidal turbine at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC).

The installation operation at EMEC’s grid-connected Fall of Warness tidal test site was concluded today, April 21, 2017, Nautricity’s Chief Executive, Cameron Johnstone, said on social media.

First Marine Solutions conducted the installation of the 500kW turbine and its station keeping system using Norwegian vessel Olympic Challenger.

Nautricity’s CoRMaT is a contra-rotating turbine which uses two closely spaced dissimilar rotors, moving in opposite directions, to drive the rotor and rotating stator sections of an electrical generator.

In November 2016, Nautricity was selected to receive support under the first call of the €11 million EU-funded FORESEA project.
