US-based wave energy developer Resolute Marine Energy (RME) has appointed Oscar Melicio as its Project Manager in Cape Verde.

Melicio will be in charge of the implementation of RME’s wave-driven desalination system in Cape Verde as part of the Wave2O project.

The project has been backed by the African Development Bank, which awarded over $900,000 to RME in January 2016.

It is expected that RME’s wave-powered desalination system will operate completely ‘off-grid’ and supply more than 48,000 people with fresh water at a competitive cost.

Olivier Ceberio , RME’s COO, said: “We’re very pleased to welcome Oscar on board at a critical time in our company’s development. We’re now making final preparations for commercialization and Oscar’s skills and knowledge of Cape Verde will be crucial to the success of our first commercial pilot project.”

Melicio is the former President of INDP, the Capeverdean National Institute for Fisheries, and has more than 25 years of experience in fisheries and marine science.
