Swansea University has hired a UK-based supplier of marine instrumentation, RS Aqua, to provide it with a wave buoy that will be used for the Seacams 2 project.
The buoy will be used to assist in resource characterization and research studies for the Seacams 2 project whose aim is to accelerate the development of Welsh marine renewables sector.
The contract was awarded on April 21, 2017, according to the Welsh government’s procurement portal Sell2Wales.
Seacams 2 is expected to boost investment in renewable energy and sustainable resource sectors by facilitating the translation of research to business activity, meeting demand for coordinated information, data and modelling of coastal and marine processes.
The £17 million Seacams 2 project, led by Bangor University with partners at Swansea University, received multi-million funding boost from the Welsh government in September 2016.
The goal of the project is develop a network of coastal observatories that would collect the information relevant for potential renewable energy developers, while the work will focus on information gathering around two marine renewable energy demonstration zones that lie off the north-west coast of Anglesey, and off the coast of Pembrokeshire.
The project will run until July 2019.
