Polenergia Secures Environmental Permit for Second Baltic Offshore Wind Farm

Polish energy company Polenergia S.A. has obtained a legally binding environmental decision defining environmental requirements for the implementation of the 600MW Polenergia Baltic Sea II offshore wind farm (Polenergia Bałtyk II).

Polish energy company Polenergia S.A. has obtained a legally binding environmental decision defining environmental requirements for the implementation of the 600MW Polenergia Baltic Sea II offshore wind farm (Polenergia Bałtyk II).

The decision was issued by the Regional Director for Environmental Protection in Gdańsk.

The company now has two legally binding environmental decisions and can start working on the technical design of two offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea with the planned total capacity of 1,200MW.

Polenergia offshore wind farms will be located north of the coastline, at the level of Smołdzino commune and Łeba municipal commune in Pomorskie voivodship. The wind farms will feature 8MW-10MW wind turbines, the developer said.

The construction works on the 600MW Polenergia Baltic Sea III (Polenergia Bałtyk III) are due to start in 2019 at the earliest.

Polenergia Baltic Sea III is expected to start delivering electricity to the grid in 2021 or 2022, and Polenergia Baltic Sea II in 2026.

The lifetime of both offshore wind farms is expected to be 25 years and the implementation of each project is divided into stages. This is due to the contract concluded by the investor, which enables the connection of 600MW to Poland’s National Power System by 2021 in the area of Polenergia Baltic Sea III, and 600MW in the area of Polenergia Baltic Sea II by the end of 2025.

The company expects that after 2022 and 2025 it will be possible to acquire additional connection capacity, which will allow for the development of each wind farm to the maximum capacity of 1,200MW.
