Electrical system integrator Bakker Sliedrecht has signed a technical development partnership with Water2Energy for the delivery of its vertical axis water turbine technology.
Dutch-based water turbine manufacturer Water2Energy has developed a vertical axis water turbine (VAWT) said to be 30 to 50% more efficient than traditional water turbines as its blades continuously adapt to the flow of water, according to Bakker Sliedrecht.
Bakker Sliedrecht said the energy yield is further enhanced through its special-set up with gearboxes and generators used to convert the mechanical into electrical energy. Bakker Sliedrecht also created a smart system that delivers the electrical power to the grid, the company said.

Now, with the partnership with Bakker Sliedrecht the conversion ratio between of mechanical energy to electrical energy has improved significantly. This makes tidal energy an even more attractive type of sustainable energy.”

Bakker Sliedrecht added that the Dutch Tidal Technology Center Grevelingendam (TTC-GD), which was recently awarded over €4 million from the Dutch government, is currently looking into the possibilities of installing the water turbines of Water2Energy and Bakker Sliedrecht.
