Malaysian energy giant, Petronas, said its second floating LNG facility is set to be operational in 2020.
Once completed, the facility currently under construction at the Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) shipyard in Geoje Island, South Korea, will enable the liquefaction, production and offloading processing of natural gas in the Rotan field, 240 kilometers offshore Sabah.
The facility will have a processing capacity of 1.5 million tons of liquefied natural gas per year.
Speaking to the media, Adnan Zainal Abidin , acting vice president LNG assets, development and production at Petronas, said the development of the second FLNG is on track, Reuters reports.
He added that the company is currently in discussions with a number of interested parties to deploy Petronas floating LNG units.
Petronas initially planned to start up the second FLNG unit in 2018, however, in February 2016, the company made a decision to re-phase the project to a later date.
Petronas’ first floating LNG unit, the PFLNG Satu, loaded the first cargo at the Kanowit gas field, offshore Sarawak, at the beginning of last month.
Head at Petronas FLNG1, Feisal Azhar , said the first floating LNG facility, that will be stationed at the Kanowit field for five years, will reach the designed capacity of 1.2 mtpa by June.
