GasLog’s 2014-built GasLog Saratoga liquefied natural gas carrier recently made a transit through the expanded Panama Canal.
The vessel, part of the Cool Pool, established by Dynagas, GasLog and Golar LNG, was built by the South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries.
The vessel is a 155,000 cubic meter tri-fuel Diesel Electric (TFDE) LNG carrier.
The first LNG carrier to transit the expanded Panama Canal was the 161,870-cbm Maran Gas Apollonia, chartered by the Hague-based LNG giant Shell, loaded with a cargo from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass liquefaction plant.
The expanded canal is able to accommodate about 90 percent of the world’s current LNG tankers. Only the Q-Flex and Q-Max tankers used for exports from Qatar, will not be able to use the canal.
