Faroe Petroleum, an independent oil and gas company, has set a date for the drilling of an appraisal well on the Brasse discovery in the North Sea.
Faroe said on Wednesday that, after receiving all required consents , the 31/7-2S Brasse appraisal well would be spud on or around May 18, 2017, at the earliest.
The company, which holds a 50 percent stake in the Brasse discovery as well as operatorship, entered into a contract with Odfjell Drilling to use the semi-submersible drilling rig, Deepsea Bergen, for the drilling operations on the well.
The remaining 50 percent in the Brage license PL740 is held by Point Resources.
The appraisal well drilling campaign comes as a result of an oil and gas discovery on Brasse made last June . After a successful exploration well, a decision was made to drill a sidetrack to help confirm reservoir distribution and hydrocarbon contacts. The 31/7-2S well will be the third drilled in the license.
The Brasse discovery is located within tie-back distance to existing infrastructure. Namely, it is located 13 kilometers to the south of the Brage field platform, in which Faroe holds a 14.3 percent working interest, and 13 kilometers to the southeast of the Oseberg field center.
