Caterpillar develops LNG test bed in Kiel

Caterpillar Marine unveiled a liquefied natural gas (LNG) test bed for gas-fuelled engines at its facility in Kiel.

Caterpillar Marine unveiled a liquefied natural gas (LNG) test bed for gas-fuelled engines at its facility in Kiel.

The LNG preparation unit comprises of an LNG tank and a gas preparation unit, both in 40 ft container size, developed and provided by Marine Service, Hamburg.

According to its statement, Caterpillar is developing the technology to improve its understanding of the LNG technology and the engineering required to maximize its potential.

Caterpillar will use its Kiel test bed to familiarize its personnel with LNG capabilities, demonstrate its benefits to the clients, to test and improve LNG components, develop LNG plants for actual operations.

It will also facilitate customer training to not only become familiar with LNG but also teach customers safety information regarding LNG handling and operational procedures.
