Swedish wave energy developer Waves4Power has redeployed its WaveEL wave energy device at Runde test site, off Norway.
The device was redeployed last week, May 5, 2017, after it underwent overhauling at Ulstein Shipyard.
Within the next two weeks, Waves4Power plans to deploy the hub and lay the cable for the grid connection, which will be conducted by Olympic Shipping in cooperation with BlueOrbis, according to the company’s Chief Executive Ulf Lindelöf.
Waves4Power expects the device to start producing electricity to the Norwegian grid before the end of May.
The company’s Chief Executive also unveiled it is well underway with the development of its next generation wave power system.
Lindelöf said: “This will be a system built in composite and it will, in one step, halve our cost for building and deploying wave power systems.”
To remind, WaveEL wave device was retrieved for service and repair in September last year, after the damage on the acceleration tube under the buoy was identified during an ROV inspection of the device.
WaveEL device produces electricity using hydraulic pump which is connected to the accumulator that feeds a hydraulic motor with a generator, which in turn converts the hydraulic pressure to electric power.
