Belgium’s DEME Group recently released an interesting photo of its two trailing suction hopper dredgers working in Germany.
On the image, TSHD ‘Marieke’ meets TSHD ‘Breughel’ on the Elbe River, Germany. According to DEME, the ‘Marieke’ is nearing completion of the land reclamation works in Cuxhaven, while ‘Breughel’ is executing maintenance dredging works on the Elbe.
Earlier this year, DEME’s German subsidiary based in Bremen, Nordsee Nassbagger- und Tiefbau GmbH, was awarded the maintenance dredging contract for the Elbe River.
The contract, awarded to a joint venture including DEME’s German subsidiary, is for the maintenance of the whole 116 km long fairway between the North Sea and Hamburg over the next two years.
The company also reported that the TSHD ‘Marieke’ will be deployed on the Elbe dredging project as soon as the vessel completes reclamation works for the port expansion in Cuxhaven.
