The Hague-based LNG giant Shell joined UK LNG, an industry alliance working on the development of liquefied natural gas in the United Kingdom.

UK LNG noted that Shell was the first company to ship liquefied natural gas into the United Kingdom.

The group provides advice and guidance to members and their customers on the safe and effective use of LNG through the development of industry documents in conjunction with IGEM (Institute of Gas Engineers and Managers).

Jason Smalley of UK LNG welcomed the joining of Shell “a key player in the global gas market,” that will take part in the development of safety standards and guidance documents for the U.K.

According to the organization’s website, the member companies manage over 90 percent of the LNG distributed in the United Kingdom.
