Sirius Petroleum, an investment company focused on oil and gas exploration and development opportunities in Nigeria, has secured a rig for the Ororo field drilling campaign offshore Nigeria.
The Ororo field, discovered in 1986, is located within OML 95 in shallow waters offshore Ondo State. It is operated by Guarantee Petroleum (55% interest) with Owena Oil & Gas as its partner (45%). Sirius Petroleum acts as the technical and financing partner in the development of the field.
Last November, Sirius signed an innovative rig deal with China’s COSL Drilling for the provision of a jack-up drilling rig to be used for the Ororo field well campaign. According to the deal, COSL will take payment for the charter at a later date.
Ahead of the rig mobilization, a seabed survey was carried out on the field location in April in order to provide data and analysis for the rig positioning prior to drilling and assess any marine geohazards to ensure safe operations and transportation of equipment.
Following the analysis of the bathymetry results from the seabed survey, Sirius informed on Wednesday that COSL Drilling has confirmed and identified the COSL Power as the jack-up rig which will be utilized for Ororo field upcoming drilling campaign.
The 2006-built COSL Power is a high-specification jack-up rig which is an ABS A1 self elevating drilling unit capable of drilling in water depths of 375ft. The rig, of a Baker Marine Pacific Class 375 design, was built by PPL Shipyard in Singapore.
Sirius has already made a deal for the provision of offshore service vessels through Tidewater Marine International for a multi-well campaign at the Ororo field.
Tidewater joined the project consortium alongside COSL, ADD Energy and Schlumberger to support the drilling program for the Ororo field.
