Huelva Port Authority (Autoridad Portuaria de Huelva) and Research Foundation of the University of Seville are entering a research project to evaluate the benefits of dredging in the ecosystem of the estuary of Huelva.

The announcement was made yesterday at a joint press briefing by Javier Barrero, president of the port, and Manuel Enrique Figueroa, professor of ecology at the university.

At the press conference, Enrique Figueroa highlighted the benefits of dredging and its positive environmental side “ as an element of cleanliness of the estuary to restore its ecological balance. ”

Javier Barrero continued by emphasizing the importance of carrying out a scientific work that will maintain the port’s leadership position as a sustainable port, promoting the development of good environmental practices such as dredging.

According to Barrero, the main aim of the study will be to highlight synergies between port activities and environmental health of the estuary of Huelva.
