Gazprom’s head, Alexey Miller discussed global energy market cooperation with Shell’s CEO, Ben van Beurden during a meeting in St. Petersburg.

The two parties focused on further steps in the expansion of Sakhalin II project which includes Russia’s only active LNG plant.

In 2015, Gazprom and Shell signed the memorandum to construct the third production train of the LNG plant, as well as the agreement of strategic cooperation providing for the expansion of the companies’ joint project portfolio, including a potential asset swap.

In addition to discussing the expansion of Russia’s first LNG export plant, Miller and van Beurden discussed the status of the 10 mtpa Baltic LNG project Gazprom is looking to develop near the seaport of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad region.

Discussions follow the memorandum of understanding the two companies signed in June last year, covering the cooperation on the Baltic LNG project.
