OERA offers funding for tidal research projects

Offshore Energy Research Association of Nova Scotia (OERA) has launched a funding call for tidal energy research proposals.

Offshore Energy Research Association of Nova Scotia (OERA) has launched a funding call for tidal energy research proposals.

The aim of the call is to build up the research capacity in Nova Scotia as one of the requirements of the call is that the project must support or advance one of OERA’s research priority areas in the fields of marine renewables, marine geoscience and marine sound.

OERA identified the following research priorities related to tidal energy: improving the understanding of the impact of tidal devices on the environment; improvements in site characterization methodologies; development of low cost monitoring technologies; and deployment, retrieval and operations advances.

Proposal budget request to OERA must be a maximum of C$20,000 ($14,000) per project, with the condition that the minimum of 50% of the proposed budget must be spent in Nova Scotia.

OERA also noted that the proposed work must be completed within one year.

The closing date to apply to the call is set for July 17, 2017, and the applicants will be informed about the outcome of the call within 90 days after submission deadline.

OERA is an independent, non-profit organization that funds and facilitates collaborative offshore energy and environmental research and development including examination of renewable energy resources and their interaction with the marine environment, with the aim to enable the sustainable development of Nova Scotia energy resources.
