The 10,081 TEU Maersk Shanghai, the largest containership to ever call a Florida deep-water port, visited PortMiami on June 14.
The Post-Panamax ship features a length of 324 meters and a width of 48.4 meters, which is equal to about three football fields.
“We welcome the Maersk Shanghai to PortMiami. Its arrival is a milestone for PortMiami as it also makes history by being the largest cargo containership ever to visit a Florida port,” Carlos A. Gimenez, Miami-Dade County Mayor , commented.
“PortMiami has made tremendous investments in infrastructure improvements… Today we’re the only full-service port on the East Coast of the US south of Virginia with a channel depth of -50/-52 feet able to handle the larger Super-Post-Panamax ships,” Juan M. Kuryla, PortMiami Director and CEO , said.
The 2016-built Maersk Shanghai is part of Maersk Line’s TP11 Service, Mediterranean Shipping Company’s America Service and 2M Alliance’s USEC-1 Service.
The service rotation includes the ports of Xiamen, Kaohsiung, Chiwan, Yantian, Vung Tau, Singapore, Salalah, Suez Canal, Newark, Norfolk, Savannah, Charleston, Miami and Freeport.
