Aurora LNG has restarted the environmental review process for its export facility located at Digsby Island in the Prince Rupert region.

Aurora LNG, a joint venture between Nexen Energy, a CNOOC company and Inpex is proposing to construct and operate an LNG facility and marine terminal on the southeast corner of Digby Island near Prince Rupert, British Columbia.

Local media report the project paused the environmental review with the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Office to secure more time to respond to comments submitted during the public comment period from January 16 to March 9, 2017.

With over 1160 comments answered to the satisfaction of B.C. EAO, Aurora LNG took the environmental review back online.

The proposed LNG plant would have the capacity to produce 24 million tons per annum of LNG at full build out, with a marine terminal capable of accommodating two LNG carriers.

The project construction is expected to start between 2020 and 2024.
