Two seafarers which were reported missing following the sinking of the cargo ship KM Avatar in the Malacca Strait have been found, with one of them alive and the other one dead, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) said.
The two men were found some 11.8 nautical miles southwest of Tanjung Kling on June 15.
The ship’s cook, known as Hermawan, 35, was found alive in a life raft.
The crew member who died was Samuel Andianto, 52. The body was found floating near the life raft, according to the MMEA.
Both victims were taken to the Melaka General Hospital and the investigation into the accident continues.
KM Avatar was en route to Batam, Indonesia, when it sank eleven nautical miles from Tanjung Kling on June 14.
As disclosed, the Indonesia-flagged cargo ship carrying fifteen men was hit by strong waves.
Thirteen crew members were rescued by the vehicles carrier Undine which was in the vicinity at the time of the incident.
