Bardot Group is set to open a facility dedicated to the simulation and optimization of ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) power generation systems.

Bardot Group said on social media the facility would provide the infrastructure for the optimization of full-scale OTEC systems, where users can run their data to produce a simulation in real conditions.

The OTEC Lab is expected to be opened this week, according to Bardot Group.

OTEC is a process that produces electricity by using the temperature difference between deep cold ocean water and warm tropical surface waters, and the Bardot Group’s OTEC Lab has been equipped with water tanks that can create a 20°C hot/cold gap for that purpose.

To remind, Bardot Group plans to install an OTEC system in the Maldives by early 2018. Its OTEC concept was approved by the classification agency Bureau Veritas in October last year.

More recently, Bardot Group signed a memorandum of understanding with another French engineering company, Doris, to work together on the development the Maldives project, as well as other potential projects worldwide, with the ultimate goal of advancing the OTEC sector.
