Norwegian energy company and LNG player Statoil chartered two LNG-fueled DP2 offshore loading shuttle tankers (OLSTs), MISC’s unit AET ordered at Samsung Heavy Industries.
The two twin skeg 125,000-dwt tankers to be built by the South Korean shipyard are scheduled for delivery in 2019 and will feature LNG dual-fuel for main and auxiliary engines.
Vessels will support Statoil’s operations both in oilfields on the Norwegian Continental Shelf of the North Sea, Norwegian Sea and the southern Barents Sea as well as on the UK Continental Shelf on a long-term charter.
The two OLSTs are in addition to the two AET DP2 ships on charter in the same area for Statoil.
Statoil added the newbuilds will be built will be fully capable of working in the harsh weather conditions and will be equipped with winterization features.
