A technical wave energy seminar was held last night in Sweden where the participants got the chance to see the demonstration of CorPower Ocean’s S3 wave energy device.

Swedish wave energy developer CorPower Ocean held a technical seminar in Stockholm on June 21, 2017, which hosted the representatives from ocean energy sector who talked about the development of CorPower device, and the prospects for wave energy industry in Europe.

The event featured several guest speakers, ranging from project partners and financiers who participated in the development of CorPower S3, such as Cascade Drivers, Swepart Transmission and Siemens, along with several UK speakers from Quoceant, European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) and Wave Energy Scotland.

Reliability was a recurring theme for both mechanical performance and software, according to Ocean Energy Sweden, a business network made up of Swedish companies developing products and systems in ocean energy sector.

During the seminar, Pär Johannesson from the Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE) introduced the variance mode and effect analysis (VMEA) methodology in his presentation, including the guidelines that have been developed in the RiaSoR (Reliability In A Sea Of Risk) project, run jointly by SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden, EMEC and ORE Catapult.

The seminar concluded with a demonstration of CorPower S3 device, allowing the attendees to see the buoy in operation in simulated waves using a 500kW Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) test rig.

The S3 device will be shipped to Orkney for ocean demonstration set to begin in fall 2017 at EMEC.

To remind, the S3 device recently delivered first power to the Swedish grid during trials in Stockholm.
