Cape Mining Supplies (CMS) Ltd recently completed delivery of the largest Dragflow hydraulically driven submersible dredge pump ever supplied to the African market.

The order was received from Southern Oceaneering who was awarded dredging and sand bypass maintenance contract for the Port of Ngqura. The contract, signed with Transnet, includes construction of a 212m long geo-container revetment repair and removal of rocks and debris.

According to CMS sales manager, Janice Hartzenberg , the Dragflow unit is a HY300A model with the capacity of 900m³/h.

“ The unit weighs 3.5t and will be coupled to a 214kW hydraulic power pack which is under construction by a supplier in Paarden Eiland, ” she said.

The Port of Ngqura (Coega), which began commercial ship operations (containers) in October 2009, lies some 20km northeast of Port Elizabeth. Situated at the mouth of the Coega River in Nelson Mandela Bay, the facility is South Africa’s 8th and latest commercial port development.
