UK’s South Hook books first July LNG cargo

The UK’s South Hook import terminal has booked its first cargo of liquefied natural gas LNG for July.

The 266,000 LNG carrier Zarga is scheduled to arrive at the South Hook LNG terminal on July 2 from Qatar, according to the Milford Haven Port Authority data.

South Hook is also expected to receive another cargo from Qatar two days after this delivery onboard the 266,000-cbm Q-Max LNG carrier Al Mafyar, data by the Paris-based tracking company Kpler shows.

Both of the LNG tankers are going to Europe around the continent of Africa instead of the preferred route via the Red Sea and the Suez Canal.

Many reports say this is probably due to the diplomatic conflict between Qatar and several of its Middle East neighbours.

However, the Suez Canal Authority said earlier this month it remained open to Qatari-flagged vessels. It is unclear whether that has changed in the meantime.

To remind, Qatar-linked vessels were banned from Saudi and UAE waters, including the major bunkering port of Fujairah after severing of diplomatic relations on 5 June. Qatari tankers are able to reach international seas through Iranian waters.
