National Grid’s Grain LNG terminal in Kent is set to become the first terminal in the UK to receive a cargo from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass export plant in Lousiana.
The facility is expected to receive a cargo on July 8, Platts reports, citing shipping sources.
The 159,800-cbm, Maran Gas Mystras, chartered by Total loaded the cargo on June 25, the AIS data provided by the vessel tracking website MarineTraffic shows.
National Grid’s Grain LNG terminal has the capacity to handle 15 million tons of LNG per year, an equivalent of 20 percent’s of the UK’s demand.
The terminal’s capacity has been snapped up on long-term contracts by BP, Sonatrach, Centrica, Engie, Uniper and Iberdrola.
