Viking Line confirms LNG-ferry order with Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry

Finnish shipping company Viking Line on said its shipbuilding contract with Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry for an LNG-fueled ferry has come into force.

Finnish shipping company Viking Line on said its shipbuilding contract with Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry for an LNG-fueled ferry has come into force.

The contract confirmation follows the meeting of all the conditions set out in the conditional deal signed in April this year.

The total contract amount is about €194 million ($220.8 million) and it also includes an option for another vessel.

The vessel, scheduled for delivery in 2020 will be deployed on the Turku(Finland)–Åland Islands–Stockholm (Sweden) route.

Viking Line’s new vessel will be 218 meters in length and have a gross registered tonnage of about 63,000 tons. Passenger capacity will be 2,800 people, and the length of its cargo lanes will be 1,500 meters.
