East Coast Oil and Gas Engineering (EC-OG) will over the weekend conduct retrieval and redeployment operation of its Subsea Power Hub system at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC).
Orkney-based marine services provider Leask Marine has been engaged to conduct the recovery of EC-OG’s Subsea Power Hub (SPH) system using its C-Odyssey vessel.
The device is expected to be recovered, and then redeployed in the operation scheduled to last from July 7 until July 11, 2017.
The EC-OG team will be bringing the nacelle back to shore for use in systems integration testing, while the SPH drive train and structure will continue with endurance testing, EC-OG confirmed.
The operation is part of the planned testing program for the SPH which, according to EC-OG, is progressing on schedule.
Once the device is redeployed at EMEC’s Shapinsay Sound scale tidal test site, it will remain there for further testing until the end of September 2017.
To remind, Aberdeen-based engineering company EC-OG installed and switched on its SPH system in April this year.
EC-OG’s unit is a subsea hybrid drive system that uses a combination of a marine energy converter coupled directly to a lithium based energy storage system.
