The price factor will play a major role in the Polish Gas and Oil Company’s (PGNiG) decision when picking the preferred LNG supplier.

The company is not only in talks to secure U.S. LNG supplies but is looking to diversify its sources and is in talks with various partners, Polish Press Agency (PAP) reports, citing Maciej Woźniak , the company’s vice-president.

Woźniak added that the company is eyeing mid-term contract ranging from three to 10 years.

The company serves as an intermediary for the purposes of LNG supplies to the Polish LNG terminal in Świnoujście, and has a 20-year contract in place with Qatargas.

Poland has officially joined the club of worldwide LNG importing nations in June last year with the arrival of the first commercial cargo at the President Lech Kaczyński LNG terminal.

The LNG import terminal, operated by Gaz-System’s unit Polskie LNG, is Poland’s flagship project to diversify gas supplies and reduce dependence on pipeline imports from Russia.
