Welsh wave energy company Wave-tricity has awarded a £400,000 contract to Mainstay Marine Solutions to support the next phase of its wave energy development activities.

The second phase contract, awarded on July 5, 2017, covers design, engineering, and maintenance support for Wave-tricity’s wave energy device, whose first stage build was completed by Mainstay Marine in February this year.

Following the initial trials, the device can now be advanced to stage two of the build before it is redeployed to the Pembrokeshire Demonstration Zone, a wave energy site off the coast of Pembrokeshire, according to Mainstay Marine.

The contract with Wave-tricity will run until December 2018, Mainstay Marine said.

Paul Burton , Technical Director of Wave-tricity, said: “Mainstay Marine has been a very important partner in helping us reach our first milestone and getting our platform to sea as planned to start testing. We are looking forward to Phase Two of our development with their team on board which, when completed, will bring us a step closer to providing the globe with the first commercial wave energy device.”

To remind, Wave-tricity hired Mainstay Marine to build its Ocean Wave Rower device in November 2016.

The device was deployed for trials off Pembrokeshire in March 2017.

Mainstay Marine is a Pembroke Dock-based designer and builder of workboats and marine renewable energy devices.
