Energinet.dk Books KEM Offshore CTVs for Kriegers Flak

Danish crew transfer vessel (CTV) owner KEM Offshore has won a framework agreement for providing CTVs for the installation and commissioning of Energinet.dk’s two offshore substations on the Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm.

Danish crew transfer vessel (CTV) owner KEM Offshore has secured a framework agreement to provide CTVs for the installation and commissioning of Energinet.dk’s two offshore substations on the Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm.

The one-and-a-half-year contract covers CTV support for dredging, foundation setting and commissioning of the two topsides, KEM Offshore said. The solution proposed by KEM Offshore includes dedicating a CTV in the operations harbor Rødvig for Energinet’s disposal.

The decision to dedicate a CTV to Kriegers Flak gives Energinet the flexibility in notice time that they need to ease the project’s logistical setup, KEM Offshore said.

The 600MW Kriegers Flak wind farm consists of two sections, each with its own substation.

The west section, KFA, will have a total capacity of 200MW. The east section, KFB, will have a total capacity of 400MW.

The KFB substation will also serve as the support for the KFE module which is part of the so called Combined Grid Solution project run by Energinet and 50 Hertz.

Brian Schlosser, commercial manager in KEM Offshore, said: ”Energinet is building and commissioning two substations and an electrical connection to the German Baltic 2 OWF which makes Kriegers Flak the first OWF in the world to exchange power, output between two countries. It is a large and complex project and we are very proud to have won this contract which demonstrates our ability and will to offer flexible and cost efficient solutions.”

The two substations are due for delivery to the installation site in April 2018. Commissioning will take place in April and May of 2018.

The Kriegers Flak wind farm will be located approximately 15km east of the Danish coast in the southern part of the Baltic Sea, close to the boundaries of the exclusive offshore economic zones (EEZ) of Sweden, Germany and Denmark.
