Siem Offshore Contractors GmbH (SOC) has selected the UK-based JDR Cable Systems Ltd. to provide termination and testing services for the inter-array cable system of the 588MW Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Ltd project.

JDR had already been awarded the design, manufacture and supply contract for the inter-array cables on the same project by SOC in August 2016.

The recent award takes place after more than half of the submarine composite cables produced have successfully passed factory acceptance tests (FAT) and now await load-out for installation by SOC, which is scheduled to commence later this year.

The Beatrice wind farm is located approximately 13km off the Caithness coast line in the Outer Moray Firth on the north-western point of the Smith Bank.

The wind farm features 84 Siemens 7MW wind turbine generators and two offshore transformer modules which will be inter-connected by 91 33kV medium voltage alternating current submarine composite cables totaling up to 164km in length.
