Gasum of Finland continued its expansion in the Nordic liquefied natural gas (LNG) market during the first half of 2017.

Speaking of the company’s results for the period, the company’s CEO, Johanna Lamminen noted the company increasing its shareholding in Skangas to 70 percent, as it sees LNG playing an increasingly important role in the Nordic gas market in the future.

Gasum reported a rise in LNG sales for the period of six months, from 2.7 TWh during January-June period in 2016 to 3.1 TWh during the period under review.

The Gasum group’s revenue for the first half totaled €506.0 million ($580.7 million), up 14 percent on the €445.3 million reported during the corresponding period a year earlier.

The increase in revenue was affected largely by the rise in the sales price of natural gas compared with the previous period under review.

The company noted it will continue to work on developing the Nordic gas market, focusing particularly on the use of LNG and biogas as industrial, maritime transport and heavy-duty vehicle fuels.
