The United States Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is currently reviewing information submitted by Annova LNG on the proposed export project on the southern bank of the Brownsville ship channel.
The project would include six liquefaction trains with the ability to produce about 6 million tons per year of LNG.
FERC said that, to date, it has attended one company-sponsored open house meeting in the project area and issued a notice of intent to prepare an EIS in July 2015.
Following the notice of intent, the regulator gathered public comments on the project and is currently conducting an environmental, engineering, and safety analysis based on information it has received from Annova and on comments received from stakeholders and the public.
The analysis includes a review of impacts associated with the SpaceX launch facility located in Boca Chica, Texas.
FERC also noted it is coordinating our evaluation of hazards and safety impacts with the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The 6 mtpa facility will also include two 160,000-cbm LNG storage tanks and one LNG carrier dock.
According to the project’s website, the final investment decision is expected in the first half of 2018.
