Black Rock Tidal Power (BRTP) has undertaken a design review of its Triton tidal energy platform planned for deployment in the Bay of Fundy in Canada.
The work on the project, comprising the construction and subsequent deployment of Triton tidal energy platform, slowed down to allow BRTP and its owner Schottel Hydro to conduct a design review of their Nova Scotia tidal power initiative, BRTP’s media relations team said.
The report featuring the results of the comprehensive review is currently being prepared for final approval, and it is expected that the process will be completed by the end of the summer.
Before embarking on the design review process, BRTP hired Aecon Atlantic Industrial to build its semi-submersible Triton S40 platform, capable of hosting 40 Schottel Instream Turbine (SIT) 250 turbines with a total generating capacity of up to 2.5MW.
Meanwhile, Schottel Hydro continued to perform tank tests on the scaled Triton platform at the Hamburg Ship Model Basin to verify its operational aspects, and to validate the numerical data for various operational conditions at the Minas Passage site in the Bay of Fundy.
The Triton platform was planned for deployment at the Fundy Ocean Research Center for Energy (FORCE) berth later this year.
