The first steel jacket for the Johan Sverdrup field centre left the shipyard in Verdal Sunday, and set a course for the North Sea.
This is the first part of the field centre that will be visible above the sea surface. Development of the Johan Sverdrup field is considered to be one of the largest industrial projects ever undertaken in Norway.
The steel jacket will carry the riser platform, which is one of four platforms being built in the field’s first development phase. The jacket is also the largest ever built for use on the Norwegian shelf and weighs about 26,000 tonnes. It was built at Kværner’s shipyard in Verdal. Two of the three other jackets will also be produced there.
Statoil is the operator of Johan Sverdrup with a working interest of 40.0267%. The licence partners are Lundin Norway (22.6%), Petoro (17.36%), Aker BP (11.5733%) and Maersk Oil (8.44%).
