Shell’s Prelude floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility has arrived in Australian waters following a 5,800 kilometers journey across the ocean.
The 488 metre long facility, constructed by Technip Samsung Consortium, left the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Geoje, South Korea on June 29, 2017.
The Prelude offshore gas field, 475 kilometres north-north east of Broome, Western Australia, is now set for the next phase of the project, hook up and commissioning.
In the next two decades, Prelude is expected to produce 3.6 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas a year, as well as liquefied petroleum gas and condensate, a light oil.
The Prelude project will employ 260 local workers on board the facility during operations and create over a 1500 jobs during the hook-up and commissioning phase of the project.
Shell is the operator of Prelude FLNG in joint venture with INPEX (17.5%), KOGAS (10%) and OPIC (5%).
