Australian LNG operator Santos appointed Philip Byrne as executive vice president marketing and trading, starting August 14.
Byrne will be a member of Santos executive committee and take charge of Santos’ new marketing and trading division as part of his responsibilities.
He will transition into the role and will take over from current executive vice president John Anderson who is retiring from the company to pursue other interests.
Byrne had 14 years’ experience at BG Group, now part of Shell, in senior commercial and exploration leadership roles including roles in the UK, Europe and India. He spent a further 7 years with BHP Petroleum including president gas marketing Asia/Australia and president, North West Shelf Australia LNG.
He was previously managing director and CEO of Nido Petroleum where he successfully negotiated with Thai refining company Bangchak Petroleum, who acquired the majority of Nido’s share capital.
